About Michael Fleming
(page 3)
I choose pieces of
driftwood that stand out as natural sculptures.
I look for pieces that have the potential
to become something more. I study each piece.
Sometimes I understand where it is going
immediately, other times it takes years.
I've come to accept that my art is as much
about patience and reflection as it is about
passion. Nature provides me with the form,
the texture, the color and sooner or later
an inherent plan. I follow it and by combining
metals, glass, and textiles - one of a kind
furniture is made. I've marveled at driftwood
on beaches all over the world. But I'm always
drawn back to Maine's magnificent coastline,
lakes, and rivers. My work is formed from
these amazing places. This is Designs Adrift.
